RMP Presents 1.03 lakh Signature Memorandum to Justice K. G. Balakrishnan

The Rashtriya Masihi Parishad (National Christian Council), a Hyderabad-based organization engaged in advocacy on issues concerning religious freedom and the rights of Dalit and minority communities, has announced that it has submitted a memorandum to Justice K. G. Balakrishnan, former Chief Justice of India and Chairman of a government-appointed commission.

 

According to the organization, the memorandum was accompanied by a signature campaign comprising 103,571 signatures collected from various states across India.

 

The organization stated that the campaign is part of its ongoing initiative seeking a review of the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950. It has raised concerns regarding the exclusion of Dalit Christians from Scheduled Caste benefits under the current framework and has called for reconsideration of the existing provisions in line with constitutional principles of equality and religious freedom.

 

Dr. A. S. Ranjeet Ophir, Founder and National President of the organization (Rashtriya Masihi Parishad), stated during a press briefing in New Delhi that the repeal or amendment of the Presidential Order of 1950 remains the organization’s primary demand. He further stated that the issue relates to constitutional guarantees under Articles 25 to 28 of the Constitution of India, as interpreted by the organization.

 

The organization stated that the memorandum submission and associated campaign activities were attended and supported by several office bearers and representatives from its national and state units. These include:

According to the organization, these representatives participated in various capacities during the campaign and submission process. However, independent verification of attendance and roles has not been established.

 

Rashtriya Masihi Parishad added that it will continue its advocacy through constitutional and democratic means and aims to draw the attention of policymakers and constitutional authorities toward its concerns regarding social justice and equality.
